Immune-modulatory activity of vaccine components

Research activity has been focused in the recent years on the characterisation of vaccine component N. meningitidis B adhesin (NadA) as a self-adjuvant molecules, using human monocytes/macrophages dendritic cells as models, in collaboration with Novartis Vaccine and Diagnostics srl .

Biosensors

Our units is also involved in the possible application of new generation Bio-sensors to Reactive Oxygen Intermediates produced by inflammatory cells, for the development diagnostics kits, in collaboration with Biofutura srl.

Insect natural or artificially altered peptides

Another research interest is the study of bee antimicrobial peptides with immune modulatory effects, and the possibility of obtaining chemically modified analogues (in particular free or gold nano-particles linked peptoides) in collaborations with the Department of Chemistry of the University of Padova.

Bio-compatibility of nano-structures

A recent growing interest of our unit is the study of the stealth properties and of the bio-emo compatibility of nano-structures particles or devices, amenable for anticancer or anti-inflammatory therapy or for diagnosis, in collaboration with the department of Biology.

Experimental models

Cytokine/chemokines patterns form experimental models or clinical tissue samples of heart or kidney damage. We collaborate with medical research providing our skill in multiplex detection of soluble mediators relevant as a sign of inflammation, helping experimental pathologists and clinicians
