CRIBI Functional Genomics Group (GeFu) is directed and coordinated by Prof. Gerolamo Lanfranchi and consists of people who offer their skills in different fields. GeFu is organized into groups according to the interest of Functional and Environmental Genomics, Gene Function, Bioinformatics and Technology development to contribute to the development of multidisciplinary projects.

Research Activity

Our activity is focused on Functional Genomics of cardiac and skeletal

muscle, analyzing gene expression and its regulation by transcription factors and miRNA activation. Moreover we collaborate with Department of Pediatrics for research about childhood leukemia and pancreatic cancer cells. We are also involved in environmental study about Antarctic krill (Euphausia superba) and variability of myticin transcripts in hemocytes of immune-stimulated mussels well as studies of gene expression relating to the water coastal pollution. In the Bioinformatics area we developed web tools for statistical analysis of microarray data and for detection of differentially expressed genes in multiple tag sampling experiments. Finally we are active in technology development for a fully electronic sensor for the measurement of cDNA hybridization kinetics. We provide our experience in the gene expression and miRNA detection by our MicroCribi Service.
