The CRIBI Bioinformatics Group is directed and coordinated by Giorgio Valle and consists of people who offer their skills in different fields.

We are organized to contribute to the development of multidisciplinary projects. Our laboratory is part of the Interdepartmental Biotechnology Centre of the University of Padua (CRIBI) and is equipped with the most advanced technology for Bioinformatics.

Research Activity

Our Bioinformatics Team has developed during past years several tools for sequence analysis and genome annotation, and worked within several bioinformatic research branches. Our main goal is the construction of a bioinformatics Gene Prediction platform able to integrate different sources of evidence in a single prediction used to identify genes on Grape Genome. The platform architecture is based on web services technology and can be used and configured through workflow managed by system like Taverna. We are developing new methodologies and algorithms for the alignment and analysis of ESTs obtained by FLX and SOLiD sequencers. Moreover we are involved in the project of Gene Ontology because the annotation represent the second step necessary to get a comprehensive knowledge and a deeper understanding on the processes and metabolic pathways that genes are involved in.
